Job Description
ECA’s mission is to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa; informed by the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063. This position is located in the Communication and Media Relations Section (CMRS) of the Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). The incumbent reports to the Section Chief and works in close collaboration with the OES,
Within the limits of delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Chief of Section, the incumbent provides specialized photography services in support of the organization's communication, documentation, and visibility objectives. The incumbent independently plans and executes photographic assignments, produces high-quality digital visual content, and ensures the processing, captioning, and systematic archiving of images in accordance with established standards and operational requirements. Event Photography and Visual Coverage • Independently plans and executes photographic coverage of conferences, high-level meetings, and official events, often under tight timelines and changing conditions. • Applies advanced photographic techniques to capture high-quality images, ensuring optimal composition, lighting, and visual storytelling. • Exercises judgement in selecting angles, subjects, and moments to ensure comprehensive and representative coverage. • Coordinates directly with event focal points and adapts coverage based on evolving event dynamics. Image Processing and Quality Assurance • Independently edits and processes digital images using specialized software to meet professional and organizational standards. • Ensures compliance with technical specifications and applies judgement in image enhancement, color correction, and formatting. • Produces curated selections of high-impact images suitable for publications, web platforms, and official use. • Ensures consistency with institutional branding and communication requirements. Captioning, Archiving, and Content Management • Prepares accurate and detailed captions requiring verification of names, titles, and event context. • Manages digital image records, ensuring proper classification, metadata application, and retrieval systems. • Contributes to maintaining an organized and accessible institutional visual archive. Equipment Maintenance and Technical Support • Maintains and troubleshoots photographic equipment to ensure operational readiness. • Identifies technical requirements for assignments and provides input on equipment usage and improvements. • Ensures proper handling and care of specialized photographic tools and accessories.
